At Eternity’s Gate is definity more cinematic than the VIncent & Theo movie of 1990. This is a work of fiction and represents Vincents final years in France The film tite is based on Vincent’s Painting of a man in a chair weeping. I like the close personal moments the camera gets. But there was a sequence where Vincent was wondering around the outdoors looking for things to paint and the screeching of the violin was so distracting. I had a similar experience with the other Von Gogh film. Maybe a ghost haunting Von Gogh movies. I love the scene where he reaches a peak and then faces the landscape and then at the moment everything goes black. Vincent then says the best line in the movie” When facing a flat landscape I see nothing but eternity, am I the only one to see it. Existence can be without reason. It feel more of a lonely person than a person who is struck with madness or a mental health problem. This version of Von Gogh madness is the deep thinking kind, instead of the stark raving mad. On that note, they went with the theory that Von Gogh didn’t shoot himself rather than children did, and Vincent was merely covering up for the bad behavior. This was a personal journey of Vincent Von Gogh.
